Jason & Joanna Shaver
Andy & Jennifer Waldren

Jason teaches English at the Kuban State University in Krasnodar.

The Waldrens are studying Russian in a local university.  As they become familiar with the culture and the people, they hope to see a church established, leading to a daughter church, and a granddaughter church as a result of discipling the Russian people.  Andy says, "We are determined to see to it that people are not only baptized into the Lord, but also discipled so that they might grow with the Lord and disciple others."

Other dreams include opening an affiliate of Apostle Paul Christian Academy, as a base for sending disciples into surrounding Muslim countries. Andy says, "There is also much more that the Lord has planned and yet to reveal."

 Irkutsk and Smolenchina

Return to map

The Bethany Christian Church was started in Irkutsk by Donald and Norma Burney in 1992.  The LaRue and Lund families moved there to help further establish this church in the mid 1990's.  Russian Elders were appointed in the church in 1996. During this same time, the Lunds began outreach in the nearby village of Smolenchina where the Alexander Potapov family lives.  Alexander was one of the Elders appointed at Bethany. Although the Bethany church has dissolved, Alexander and a small group of faithful brothers and sisters have joined forces with the non-instrumental Church of Christ, and continue to serve faithfully in both Irkutsk and Smolenchina.

Khabarovsk

Return to map

The Khabarovsk Christian Church was started in 1991 by Joel and Debi Likins.  The Likins moved to Russia from Japan after the fall of the "iron curtain," and began teaching English and the Bible at one of the universities.  People were hungry to hear the Word, and many accepted Christ and were baptized.  The Likins were helped by various missionaries along the way, including the Lunds, who moved to Khabarovsk in 1996.  Since then, the Russian leaders have grown in leading their own flock.  They have faced many challenges along the way, one of which included a fire at their church building in 1999.  In 2007, this church merged with a non-instrumental Church of Christ and together hope to reach more people.

Groundwork for the Komsomolsk Christian Church began in the fall of 1992 as the LaRues and Lunds lead Bible studies at two local universities. The Lord opened the hearts of various people, and within two years, worship services began.  Later, another couple, the Schanies, arrived and continued the work.  The church's first elders were appointed in December 1998.  Since then, God has called home Valeri Godovnikov, one of the church's first Elders.  Today the church continues to tackle challenges as they seek to serve and grow under the pastoral leadership of Valera Urasov.
